Film Project Planning

For the project, our group has decided to take on the film project. We plan on creating an action film that involves many types of shots and editing techniques. Our group consists of multiple people who have experience with filming and photography, enabling us to experiment with how we film. For our film, we plan on using a few different pieces of filming equipment and taking advantage of their unique abilities to capture certain shots. For the main shots that require us to be holding the camera, we plan on using my Canon Rebel T3i DSLR with a mounted microphone. We have considered using cars in our film, such as my friend's 1985 Camaro and my own 1990 Mercedes. To capture shots of the cars, we plan on using gopros mounted to them and another car with a cameraman using the DSLR. For aerial shots, we have access to drones that have cameras to capture the footage from above. For editing the footage, we will have to use editing software such as Adobe Premier or iMovie on a computer. We may also include a title at the beginning, requiring us to use a program such as Adobe Photoshop. Overall, we plan on utilizing all of the technology available to us to create a film we will be proud of.

Film Project Opinion

Based on my knowledge of film making, I believe that the film project would be a great project for me take on. In "Band of Brothers", they use multiple types of shots to capture different types of emotions and actions from the characters. Methods such as short takes and close ups illustrated the sense of urgency and anxiousness the soldiers were feeling during the scene. With the techniques I've learned, I believe I would be able to create these emotions in the film project. I am also experienced with a camera, making it easier for me to capture these shots. In "Band of Brothers", they also use certain editing to create a mood for the viewer and what is going on in the scene. My Aunt is an experienced videographer who has showed me how to use editing software in the past. This would greatly assist me if I took on the film project, as I would be able to use my previous knowledge on editing. Finally, in "Band of Brothers", they use accurate props, set design, and costumes to create and accurate depiction of a military airfield in World War 2. If  I were to take on the film project, I believe I would be able to acquire the correct props and costumes to fit the film.

Magazine Project Opinion

Based on my knowledge of the work of journalists and magazines, I have a mixed opinion on the magazine task. In All the President's Men, the journalists for the Washington Post went out on their own and interviewed people who could give them information. I lack the experience of interviewing, thus making this aspect difficult. The reporters also had to create their own articles based on the evidence they uncovered. The articles I would write could help me expand on my writing skills. In the Newsroom, the reporters working for the show have to check the reliability of their sources so they can publish the information with confidence. This would help me improve on my source checking skills which would be very useful for other classes I'm currently enrolled in. Magazines also have eye-catching photos such as the ones found on the cover and throughout the articles. Some of my free time is spent photographing things, making this aspect enjoyable for me. Overall, the magazine task be a good fit for me, however, there are some aspects of the project that wouldn't be.
